Winter is the best time for reading, especially here in Washington where the days are so short and dark. Embrace the coziness! (I have to keep reminding myself) There are some books that are especially delicious during this time of year.
The Little House Series (Especially the Little House in the Big Woods, and Farmer Boy)
The good thing about it getting dark at 4 pm is that Mark gets in early enough for us to occasionally watch movie. We watched The Scarlet Pimpernel around Thanksgiving (recommended by my sister) and it was so good. So good. You must watch the Jane Seymore version.
Any other cozy winter reads?

holy cow, we're book twins. i love your list. LOVE IT. Ox-cart Man is a book i bought for my kids because i loved it as a child, but my husband and i usually end up reading it together instead. it's our dream life. love Laddie- have you read Girl of the Limberlost by the same author? it's a good one. but really, your list is perfect. i'm revisiting the Little House series and loving it.
going to take your recommendation for the Scarlet Pimpernel for sure. have you seen Little Dorrit? i think you'd love it. as far as cozy books, if you haven't read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, i'd really recommend that.
Here is a list of some of my favorite reads:

loved i capture the castle. the lost art of keeping secrets and the thirteenth tale were similar in feel - loved them both.
Hi there--I've been watching your blog for a while now--I think I followed a link from farmama, I can't really remember--and I'm happy to see you're posting again!
I like your book list too, and I agree that winter is the perfect time for curling up with a good book. I'm about to begin The Count of Monte Cristo--been meaning to read it for years, but never got around to it.
Personally, I usually read in my favourite chair in my bedroom while breastfeeding...I can get so many books read that way in those early days when bf sessions sometimes reach almost an hour...I'll be back there again come March! :)
abby- I will have to check out Little Dorrit. I have read a tree grows in brooklyn and Girl of the limberlost and loved them both.
laura- I have been meaning to read the count of monte cristo forever, it is my husbands favorite book. Maybe I should tackle it this winter!
started reading i capture the castle but didn't finish. :(
you probably won't like my books.
You have so many of my favorites on your list--My Antonia, Little Women, the Anne books...so good and nourishing for the soul! Thank you for the recommendation of I Capture the Castle--just checked it out from the library and it's keeping me up too late at night. Last year I tried to read some of the children's classics I never read as a child. Heidi and Jane Eyre were so delightful.
